About HKUST(GZ)

Q1. What is the relationship between HKUST and HKUST(GZ)?

Under the Unified HKUST-Complementary Campuses umbrella, academic structures and degree programs of the two universities are differentiated, the overall infrastructures substantially enlarged and updated, and courses and central research facilities open to students and researchers both ways. Even though the two campuses are of separate legal entities and financial frameworks, faculty are encouraged and supported to collaborate and co-supervise students, and students will have opportunities to pursue degrees offered by both campuses. This way, members of both campuses will freely choose their research topics and related studies with University’s overall enlarged scope, with more flexibility and better support. Accordingly, HKUST will further strengthen its role as a globally leading institution, and our faculty and students will find an encouraging atmosphere for their passions and interests to better develop their potential.


Certificate

Q2. Is the certificate issued by HKUST (GZ) or HKUST?

Upon successful completion, students will be awarded a master's degree by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

Q3. Can the certificate be recognized by the China Service Center for Scholarly Exchange? 

There are two types of applications for the MOE CSCSE Credential Verification:

Overseas Academic Credential Verification: Applicable to applicants who have studied abroad for more than 6 months and obtained academic degrees/certificates issued by overseas institutions.

Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education Academic Credential Verification: Applicable to applicants who studied at Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education institutions/colleges, obtained overseas academic degrees/certificates, and have no overseas study experience or less than 6 months of overseas study.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) belongs to the second category as a Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education institution. For verification, please refer to the official website of the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Q4. Who is most suitable to apply for MBA+?

Q5. How is MBA+ different from a traditional MBA? What does “+” signify?    

MBA+ is the short name of MBA in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program. The “+” highlights in combinations of

Theory + Practical Combat
China + Overseas

Q6. Program Duration and Class Schedule   

Program Duration: 2 years (flexible completion within 2-5 years for students with special circumstances).

Class Schedule: Bi-weekly weekends and part of the holidays.


Admission Requirements

Q7. What are the general admission requirements?   

1. General Admission Requirements

Applicants seeking admission to a master's degree or postgraduate diploma program should have:

  • Obtained a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution, or an approved equivalent qualification.

2. English Language Admission Requirements

Applicants have to fulfill English Language requirements with one of the following proficiency attainments:

  • TOEFL-iBT: 80 (for tests taken prior to 21 January 2026)*
    4.5 (for tests taken from 21 January 2026 onwards)*
  • TOEFL-pBT: 550
  • TOEFL-Revised paper-delivered test: 60 (total scores for Reading, Listening and Writing sections)
  • IELTS (Academic Module): Overall score: 6.5 and All sub-score: 5.5*

* Refers to scores in one single attempt only. Test at home option is not accepted.

Applicants are not required to present TOEFL or IELTS score if

  • Their first language is English, or
  • They obtained the bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an institution where the medium of instruction was English.

Q8. What should I do if my IELTS/TOEFL (or another public examination) result is not yet available? Can I still submit an application?

You may submit your application while your language test results are still pending by providing the following details.

  • State your scheduled test dates in the online application.
  • Update the test record and upload the score report once the result is available.
  • The test score is an essential factor in assessing your application. You are highly recommended to take relevant test and upload score report as soon as possible.
